A grand panorama of Rome, created by one of the preeminent masters of Roman topography in the 18th-century — Giuseppe Vasi (1710–1782). Vasi was an Italian architect and engraver, best known for his vedute — highly detailed cityscapes, especially popular during the Age of the Grand Tour. Together with his contemporary Giambattista Nolli, Vasi was also responsible for the creation of some of the most important maps of Rome in the 1700s. This expansive, large-scale, bird’s-eye view of the Eternal City from the southwest, was Vasi’s crown achievement. It is known as: A Prospect of the City of Rome from Monte Gianicolo (Janiculum), or, in Italian: Prospetto dell'alma Città di Roma. The full title reads: Prospetto dell'alma Città di Roma visto dal Monte Gianicolo e sotto gli auspici della Sacra Maesta Cattolica di Carlo III Re delle Spagne, Pio Gusto Magnifico Promotore Eccelso delle Scienze e Belle Arti… (Shown frames are for illustrative purposes only.)
