This map accompanied Sir Robert Porter’s A Narrative of The Campaign in Russia, During the Year 1812, published in 1814. Sir Porter traveled extensively in Northern Europe and Russia in the early 1800s, establishing relationships with the Russian Czar and Nobility, and eventually marrying into Russian nobility. He was in the Czars headquarters during Napoleon’s invasion and used this insider knowledge to write his book and create the accompanying map. Troop movements, cities, rivers, and major engagements are marked on this important map for understanding Napoleon's Russian Invasion.
