An early-eighteenth-century map of the Republic of Venice (697–1797), focused on the geography, and the military and political achievements of the Most Serene Republic. A map of the Adriatic Sea and the Gulf of Venice is displayed centrally and diagonally in the layout; two more inset maps depict the region around the Venice, and the easternmost parts of the Mediterranean. The coats of arms of the Doge and of the territories and domains of Venice flank the central map. The sheet contains articles and lists of data concerning the principalities and the state’s governance. The map was created by Henri Abraham Chatelain for his Atlas Historique (1705-1720).
