A plan of Imola, Italy from 1502, drawn by Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo created this very detailed and accurate map of Imola for Cesare Borgia, the son of Rodrigo Borgia (Pope Alexander VI). At the time, detailed city plans would have been a novel idea. Upon seeing the map, Borgia hired Leonardo as his chief military architect and engineer. Caterina Sforza had been the Lady of Imola and Countess of Forlì until Cesare Borgia captured her fiefdoms in 1499. Rocca Sforzesca is clearly visible on the left side of this unique and beautiful map.
