An 1833 English language copy of the Austin & Williams land grant in Texas. The 1831 original was written in Spanish and granted by the Governor of Coahuila y Tejas, to Stephen F. Austin and Samuel M. Williams, for the area referred to as the Upper Colony of the Austin Contract. That land became the Robertson’s Colony in 1834. Sterling C. Robertson prepared an official copy of the Austin–Wiliams Grant in his legal pursuit to invalidate it. Sterling Clack Robertson (1785–1842), was an important figure of early Texas, and one of the original empresarios. The title of the document reads: Translation of the Contract of Colonization with Austin & Williams, July 25th 1831 [1833 scratched]. (This item is also available unframed in our collection.)
