Burg Hohenzollern

Burg Hohenzollern or, the Hohenzollern Castle, is the ancestral seat of the Prussian Royal House and of the Hohenzollern Princes. The turreted castle sits atop Mount Hohenzollern in the foothills of the Swabian Jura, just east of Schwarzwald. It is the third Hohenzollern castle built on the site. The first two were erected in the 11th and 15th centuries, and subsequently destroyed by sieges and wars. The third and current castle was built from 1850 to 1867. The iconic edifice was designed by the prominent Prussian architect Friedrich August Stüler, Royal Architect (Architekt des Königs) to King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. The watercolor view, depicting the facade of the castle, was drawn by E. Kölle in 1873.
