A manuscript architectural drawing of The White House (“President’s House”) in Washington, D.C., made in 1807 by Benjamin Henry Latrobe (1764–1820), an eminent architect and close friend of Thomas Jefferson’s, referred to as “the Father of American Architecture”. Latrobe had been asked by Jefferson to help redesign the building. An inscription in the margin reads: “Plan of the principal Story, as proposed to be altered.” (Shown frame is not included.)
