A beautiful, fine art facsimile of the 1818 edition of the Declaration of Independence of the United States, in an ornamental oval frame with medallions of seals of the thirteen original colonies, and medallion portraits of John Hancock, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson. Title: In Congress, July 4, 1776 — The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen United States of America. The Declaration of Independence of the United States was written by Thomas Jefferson, with input by John Adams and Benjamin Franklin, and was adopted and ratified by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. It was later engrossed on parchment by Timothy Matlack on August 2, 1776, and signed by all 56 members of Congress.

The 1818 edition, which was in fact published in 1819, was prepared by John Binns, who described his design in a prospectus: “A Splendid Edition of the Declaration of Independence. The Design in imitation of Bas Relief, will encircle the Declaration as a cordon of honor, surmounted by the Arms of the United States. Immediately underneath the arms, will be a large medallion portrait of General George Washington, supported by cornucopiae, and embellished with spears, flags, and other Military trophies and emblems. On the one side of this medallion portrait, will be a similar portrait of John Hancock, ...and on the other, a portrait of Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence…” (Frame is not included.)
