Product Description

An early-1800s view of the United States Capitol building, the seat of the U.S. Congress, in Washington, D.C. The watercolor view was painted by British-American artist William Russell Birch (1755-1834) sometime after 1800, when the north wing was first occupied, and before 1808, when the south wing was completed, (possibly around 1804-1805). The Capitol building is depicted as it was before the Fire of 1814 during the War of 1812.
