Product Description

An early nineteenth-century view of St. Charles, Missouri. St. Charles was the first state capital of Missouri (1821 – 1826). It is situated just northwest of St. Louis, on the west bank of the Missouri River. The beucaulic watercolor view shows a westerly outlook of the town from across the river. The illustration was made during Friedrich Paul Wilhelm, Herzog von Württemberg’s expeditions during the 1820s up the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. The duke later discovered the sources of the Missouri River.
