London The Bastion of Liberty is an iconic mid-1940s commemorative pictorial plan of the city of London, England. The creator of this colorful map, Kerry Lee, celebrates the heritage of the City in a whimsical manner, at a moment when the people of London need their spirits lifted the most. They had just been through the Second World War, including the horrifying Blitz (1940-1941). Kerry Lee follows in the footsteps, and borrows from MacDonald Gill and his groundbreaking 1914 creation, The Wonderground Map of London Town — and just like Max Gill, Lee succeeds in spades in paying homage to a great city and the indomitable British spirit. Just like Gill, Lee manages to create an iconic and visually striking memento, truly one for the ages.
